Adrian Freed was most recently Research Director of UC Berkeley’s Center for New Music and Audio Technologies (CNMAT). He has pioneered many new applications of mathematics, electronics, and computer science to audio, music, and media production tools including the earliest Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) for digital sound editing, mixing and processing, the first audio plug-ins, and the first widespread encoding for intermedia work, OSC. His recent work has focused on whole body interaction, gesture signal processing, and terrascale integration of data from wearable and built environment sensor/actuator systems employing electrotextiles and other emerging materials. His featured project in 2018 brings an ethical and sustainability lens on wearable innovations for physically disabled people.
